The Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) is the Provision of food in addition to the regular meals, to target children as part of the DSWD’s contribution to the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) program, of the government.
The DSWD-CAR downloaded Php 1.127, 880.00 to MLGU-Lamut. The food supplementation will be in the 35 Day Care Centers of 18 barangays of Lamut. The food supplementation will be in a form of hot meals to be served during snack time (10:00 a.m. for morning sessions and 3:00 p.m. for afternoon sessions to children five (5) days a week for 120 days.
The feeding Program will be managed by parents based on a prepared cycle menu using available indigenous food products. Children beneficiaries will be weighed at the start of feeding. Three months after, and after completion of the 120 feeding days to determine improvement in their nutritional status.
The implementation of the SPF is based on the following, first, Millennium Development Goal 1- Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, second, Nutrition Act of the Philippines (PD 491)- The Philippine Government declares that nutrition is a priority to be implemented by all branches of the government in an integrated fashion.
Fourth, ECCD Act (RA 8980)- It is a policy of the Sate to promote the rights of children to survival, development, and special protection with full recognition of the nature of childhood and its special needs. And fifth,1987 Philippine Constitution Article XV Section three to two items- the Government must ensure the right of children including proper care and nutrition and special protection from all forms of neglect, abuse, cruelty, exploitation and other conditions prejudicial to their development.#Juanita Puguon
