The long awaited dream of the leaders and followers of the Christian Religious Denominations of the municipality of Lamut, Ifugao finally came to reality when the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) amended section 11 of the Lamut Market Code, replacing the Thursday and Sunday market day to Tuesday and Saturday market day. The amendment also provides that the transient market vendors will now be allowed to sell their goods during the Tuesday and Saturday market days with the same starting time and closing time given to the regular market vendors. The amended ordinance after the approval of the Municipal Mayor it was immediately submitted to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Lagawe, Ifugao for review.

The amendment of Sunday market day was a controversial issue that restrained the past political leaders to make a decision. Proponents of the amendment argued that the Sunday Market Day violates the 3rd commandment of God, “KEEP HOLY THE LORDS DAY”. Those who were against the amendment insisted that the Sunday market day is a tradition or a part of the culture of the people of Lamut and changing the market schedule will adversely affect the market income.

The amendment of the Sunday market schedule was one of the legislative proposals of Mayor Mariano B. Buyagawan Jr. to the Sangguniang Bayan during his first State of the Municipality Address (SOMA). The Lamut Association of Ministers for Peace (LAMP) came in to support the executive proposal for the amendment of the Sunday market day with petitions address to the Sangguniang Bayan. The 17th Sangguniang Bayan after floating survey questionnaires to determine the public’s opinion adopted the ordinance which shall take effect on January 2015.#
