Grelie Lim-ang, a pupil of Sanafe Elementary School (SES), suffered a tetanus infection after a free tooth extraction during the Children’s Day celebration in Lamut town.
Six days after the tooth extraction, her parents noticed their daughter had some symptoms of the infection like locked-jaw. She was immediately brought to Ifugao Provincial Hospital for confinement.
According to silvestra M. Ebelan, School head of SES, the prescribed medicine was not available in the hospital and Grelie’s family was financially incapable of buying it.
Two days after she was rushed to the hospital, she was able to get the proper medication through the financial assistance of the DepEd family, LGU and other private individuals.
According to the records of Rural Health Unit of Lamut, the child did not receive immunization on anti tetanus. They added that this must have caused the infection.
Now she is back to school since November 11 but she still needs close supervision especially in her food intake for her complete recovery. #Sol Aquino, SES
