Campus Journalists and school paper adviser representing ten elementary schools and five secondary schools gathered at the Department of Education, Lamut District Office for a seminar-workshop on campus journalism on November 16-17, 2013.
In her message, Dr. Corazon E. Fontanilla, the Public Schools District Supervisor, welcomed all the participants.” You need this training in order that you can put up your own school paper. Without your school paper, there’s no way you can join the Division Schools Press Conference,” she said emphasizing that the school paper is a basic requirement.
Meanwhile , District Press Con Coordinator Edison C. Balanian in his opening remarks, observed that from the usual 15 elementary school, that have been participating in the press conference in the past years, only ten joined this training.
On the first day, Collaborative Publishing was discussed by Mrs. Rachel Khayad, news writing by Mrs. Soledad Aquino, Photojournalism by Mrs. Cora Pablo, Editorial Cartooning by Mr. Lemuel Eraña ,feature writing by Mrs. Sharon Ganigan, Copy reading and Headline writing by Mrs. Vivian Ballatong and Lay outing by this writer.
On the second day, Ms.Kate Campollo, a Mass Communications graduate, was the speaker invited for Broadcasting. She was able to demonstrate a 5-minute live broadcast to the participants. Mr. Edison C. Balanian lectured on Editorial writing followed by Mr. Freddieson Bayangan on Sports writing.
The INSET Coordinator,Mrs Rosebella P. Buya-ao planned the training ahead of time but because of hectic scheduled of school activities like Sports and Technolympics, the seminar has to be postponed at a later date.
Pursuant to Division Memorandum No. 162, s. 2013, the Division Schools Press Conference is scheduled on January 9-10, 2014 at the Lagawe District Open Gym with the theme “Campus Journalism and Transformational Leadership”. #Aurelia T. Ballitoc
