The delegation of Ifugao garnered 4th place in the over-all ranking during the Regional School Press Conference (RSPC) held at Bucay, Abra last January 28-30, 2014.
The Department of Education (DepEd) of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) hosted the annual joint secondary and elementary RSPC .This activity gathered a crowd of two thousand campus journalists and school paper advisers from the seven divisions of CAR.
Participants from both the secondary and elementary schools region wide competed in English and Filipino categories in the field of news writing, editorial writing, sports writing, feature writing and in some other fields of journalism such as editorial cartooning, photo journalism, broadcasting, copy reading and headline writing and collaborative publishing including the newest category which is Science and Technology writing as mandated by the regional memorandum
The theme for this year’s first joint secondary and elementary regional schools press conference is anchored on “Campus Journalism and Transformational Leadership”
“You cannot be a Campus Journalist if you are not a transformed leader,” said Regional Director Ellen B. Donato in her message during the opening program. She was here with Assistant Director, Estela L. Cariño to grace the occasion.
The three-day activity kept the participants busy and announcement of the results of the group contest was announced in the evening of Day 1 as scheduled in the program.
Ifugao delegation garnered places where the school paper of Lamut Central” The Gateway” got 2nd place in Best Page Lay-out and Design and Mun Wanak,school paper of Lagawe Central got fourth; Raniag of Salamague Elementary School, best in Editorial Section, The Observer of the Ifugao Provincial Science High School (IPHS) got 7th place in Science and Technology section. School papers of Ifugao Academy garnered two awards and Alang, school paper of Bangbang National HighSchool, Hungduan was also awarded.
The results of the group contest were added to the individual writing contests garnered per division to determine the placement. Among the top placers for radio broadcasting were Sta. Maria National High school for copping first place in English while the broadcasting team of IPHS got third place.
In the elementary level, the broadcasters of Lagawe Central School for English representing Ifugao placed 5th and the Filipino group represented by Potia Elementary School got second place.
For collaborative publishing, the Filipino group garnered third place represented by Alfonso Lista Central School. In the secondary level, Ifugao got third in English while the Filipino team was fifth place.
The points garnered by the elementary and secondary in each division were added to come up with the final ranking per division as follows: First: Benguet, Second: Baguio City, Third: Apayao, Fourth: Ifugao, Fifth: Abra, Sixth: Kalinga, seventh:Mt. Province
Top 3 in each event per category in the RSPC will represent region CAR in the National School Press Conference (NSPC) which will be held April in Clark Air Base, Pampanga this year.
Meanwhile, it was announced during the closing program that winners in the top 3 per event will attend the cliniquing on March 7-8,2014 at the Regional NEAP Building, Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet to prepare them for the upcoming national schools press conference.# Aurelia T. Ballitoc.
